Cesar Estrada Chavez, the late founder and president of the United Farm Workers of America, had deep confidence in the ability of people to move mountains of injustice. In fact, under his leadership, farm workers moved the agribusiness mountain and won the first union contracts for agricultural workers in the grape fields. On August 18th, the state of California recognized that legacy when Governor Gray Davis signed into law the creation of an official state holiday which would be celebrated starting in 2001 on Cesar Chavez’s birthday March 31st. Also established was a Cesar Chavez day of learning and service in the state’s public schools where the state’s youth are taught about Cesar and his union. This was the first time in the United States that a Latino or labor leader had ever received this tribute.
Parlier Unified School District Board of Trustees and administration would like to proclaim Wednesday, March 31, 2021 as Cesar E. Chavez Day of Service and Learning and encourages student participation in authorized school community service honoring the life and work of Cesar E. Chavez on or around this date.

La Junta Directiva y la administración del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Parlier desean proclamar el miércoles 31 de marzo del 2021 como el Día de Servicio y Aprendizaje de César E. Chavez y alienta la participación de los estudiantes en el servicio comunitario escolar autorizado que honra la vida y el trabajo de César E. Chavez en o alrededor de esta fecha.
